Wooden Joints

The population of Melkadida has nowadays no access to the electric grid, nor access to specific tools like electric screwdrivers, drills, welding machines, etc. In this context, a special treatment of construction joints has been developed by builders and craftsmen. Joints in the building process are solved with nails and hammers. 50mm nails with washers to allow thin iron or plastic sheets to be attached to wooden posts without being torn. For joints between thick pieces of wood (for example in roof structure frames or anti-termite post bases [see evidence 04) a 1” soft iron band is used, usually coming from recycled sheets of iron. This type of joint is used especially in wooden structure buildings and pitched roofs.
