All over the city of Karachi (especially early in the morning) you can find people collecting plas- tic, cans or paper. This is not new. But we were almost shocked to find a paper and cardboard press 50m away from a main street in Karachi. The operation couldn’t be simpler: after putting the cardboard inside, two people move a turning lever that moves the top piece through a gear, pressing the material. The best part of the invention is not the technology involved but its presence in the city center.
